KEYNOTE: Rae's Journey: Longitudinal Evidence of Surf Therapy as a Pathway from First Wave to World Championship
Understand how a single longitudinal case study reveals multisystem (micro, meso, exo, macro) benefits of surf therapy often missed in short-term studies. Gain a practical framework, the Social Ecological Model of Disability with CBR Guidelines, to see why surf therapy benefits extend beyond the beach into home, school, and community life, applicable across over fifty disability categories. Identify programme elements like coaching continuity, classification support, and competitive exposure that help participants progress toward elite performance. Learn how surf therapy can aid Sport for Development, achieving social and health outcomes, and Development Sport, producing elite para athletes and strengthening the sport. Comprehend how a theory of change moves from the initial inclusive ocean moment, through mentorship and para sport pathways, to a System Shift that embeds inclusion into sport, education, and health systems, fostering a more inclusive future.
